Duane, you raise an important point. Most Jewish-Americans (I assume it is similar for other "Western" Jews as well) do in deed support Israel as a Jewish-State but only to varying degrees. Many have loudly condemned the IDF war against Gaza, and this war as well. In that sense, in the U.S. they mirror what other Americans feel about the war and Israel's actions. The majority of Jewish-Americans condemn various aspects of Israeli policy. But the same majority do in fact defend the existence of Israel. That, of course, is changing, by age group demographics, for the better. But to the statement...your last sentence, also true...my response is "So what?". All that means is we have a lot of work to do. As I noted the youth are breaking from the sort of emotional support Israel received...that unconditional "never say you criticize Israel in public" sort of thing. That, Duane, is long dead. But...does the fact of Jewish-American support via the various, mostly unattended Reform (the majority of Jewish practicing Jews in the U.S. and Europe) mean they thus collectively guilty? Also, why target Jewish-Americans? The real power house are the 40 million evangelical Christians, who in their majority, do, indeed, attend church regularly. Or, for that matter, the Mormons who bases a lot of their political actions as open Zionists? All this leads to the question of a political solution to U.S. arming Israel and carrying out war against Arabs and Iranians. It should not make these Americans targets for the raving reactions of a man who lost his family to U.S. built IDF bombs.
