I was going to post this, but John beat me to it. Country Joe did not exactly recruit me to the left when I was a kid, but he was an important influence. The Times obituary is mostly correct, but gets it wrong when it comes to the Fish cheer which they began to use when Joe and Barry were playing acoustic instruments. Also, Barry was the one and only fish at first. The Mao story came later.
