I was looking into this a couple of years ago, but unfortunately I didnt
finish the job; however, my recollection is that I had been told by the
people in the know(?) that it could be done (for MrSid at least) by doing a
bit of fiddling.
There are some files in the MapInfo\Professional directory, along the lines
of Miffgif.dll, & Miffjpeg.dll - theses are the drivers to read the various
file formats... I think that the MrSid plug-in adds its own files to the
collection. I see no reason why these couldnt be included in your
installation - you will need to put them in the appropriate MapX directory,
and possibly register them.
As for ECW, as yet I am none the wiser...
