I've run into a serious problem with redraw times in version 5.5 for Maps
that have clip regions. Map windows that used to redraw in less than 10
seconds in v 4.5 now take over 3 minutes. And any minor change to the map
causes a redraw. Performance is equally bad in layout windows that
reference these map windows. I've been in touch with MapInfo technical
support, who admit that this is a known bug, but as far as I know, there are
no fixes for it yet. If it weren't for the investment I've made in writing
some MapBasic routines (we bought MapBasic for the first time with v 5.5), I
would switch back to v 4.5.

In the meantime, I've been trying to work around the problem by using 4
borderless, opaque rectangles to mask out unwanted areas. But changing the
Region border property in anything but the cosmetic layer doesn't have any
effect (I always get a solid black border). This makes my workaround too
inflexible, since it wipes out anything outside the nominal 'clip' region,
including labels of items inside the 'clip' region.

Does anyone have any suggestions ?

Thanks for your help,
