I know its a bit parochial, but In UK Local Government Circles, the 
desktop mapping breakdown around last year was:

MapInfo 21%
ArcView (ESRI) 19%
Someone else 12%
...and then the rest...

I'm sure MI will give you some figures, but regardless, I suggest 
that if ESRI are claiming 90% of most markets then they are 
talking out of their pants.

However, I do have information to suggest that ESRI have around 90% 
of the ArcInfo market...but I can't confirm this...!
