Interesting, while I didn't like the way this was released I'll probably pay for the new version. I see this as less about upgrading for new features, etc. as paying for continued work on the software. Like Benny, Michael is very responsive and works hard on the product. Especially on MacOS, I have a lot of software that demands yearly renewals. Fortunately, the better developers let the software continue to run without renewals, you just miss out on updates, but more and more stuff is moving to annual renewals or nothing.
