You don’t mention which version of MailMate you’re using, but in
5960, and pretty much as far back as I can remember, address
auto-completion will wait forever for me to take action. The only way
for me to complete an address is to hit TAB or ENTER. Otherwise it just
sits there with the dropdown displayed.
Is your keyboard sending erroneous TAB or ENTER keystrokes? A few
possibilities come to mind:
Have you have enabled some extra keyboard input utility or feature that
is interfering with the normal interface in MailMate?
Have you accidentally changed your keyboard layout to a different
language?
Have you tried cleaning your keyboard?
One quick fix to try right away is [resetting the
PRAM](https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063) on your Mac.
