 It only gets there if you do "make install". If you didn't do it, it must
be an old version.

 First of all, M is really bad as a newsreader. You can use it for it but I
certainly don't advise it. Myself I only used it a couple of times to post
to newsgroups but too many functionalities are missing to use it as regular
newsreader. It's great for the mailing lists though.

 Anyhow, to get the list of the groups you should use "Folder|Browse" (or
right click and "Browse" from the context menu).
