I think the problem here is that some braindead system has been introduced, which doesn't account for the actual work being done. So, if it's ok that somehow the karma goes down, it should be lowered accordingly to the severity of the bug found. Which also means that all the lost karma (plus some more?) should be re-instated once the bug is fixed and the fix release and verified.
