Very impressive! I'm sure it will be helpful when people want to
help out with Sardine. I've thought about it myself but was hesitant
due to the need to nuke my existing install.

Got it :)

The trick it to _not_ to rsync via 'rsync -avHx / /opt' when mmc is
mounted to /opt but remount rootfs to different directory (like /floppy)
and rsync this. It makes difference with /dev directory. rsync -x skips
mounted filesystems which is OK but leaves directory empty which is not
OK if directory is not empty and there is something hidden behind mount
point.

So the rsync -avHx suggested by me on this list works for initfs but
doesn't work for rootfs. You need to do extra step of mounting
/dev/mtdblock4 again to different directory and rsync that to have
complete image.

Nokia770-26:~# mount -t jffs2 /dev/mtdblock4 /floppy -o
rw,rpsize=1024,rpuid=0,rpuid=30000
Nokia770-26:~# mount /dev/mmcblk0p2 /opt/
Nokia770-26:~# rsync -avH --delete /floppy/ /opt/

So now I have exact copy of my IT2006 rootfs on MMC card, partition 2
and it boots fine from menu :-)
