Title: OE 5.02 Freeze ups and Hyperlink problems
There are 2 problems I have sending e-mail that may or may not be related.
I've had my first G4 Mac for 4 months and it's running with O.E. 5.02 and Explorer 5.1. with OS 9.2.2, 512 RAM, DSL broad band.
1) When I click "SEND NOW" the window where the message was will often suddenly go gray and my cursor will freeze up on the screen or it has no effect on anything else that I try to click on in order to resume control. Occasionally when I can still move the cursor and if I can even get the APPLE/OPTION/ESCAPE to function properly from the key pad, it will then freeze after I click "Force Quit". Inevitably, clicking "SEND NOW" causes me to manually press the restart button on the computer about 35% of the time which then goes through the DISK FIRST AID process before the OS startup can occur. This problem seems a little worse when sending from the DRAFT file.
The memory allocation for the Outlook Express Application was at one time increased to 24000k (minimum size) and 56000k (preferred size) to remedy this problem but it wasn't particularly successful. I read recently that 24000k (min. size) was actually a waist of RAM, <http://homepage.ntlworld.com/techie.grim/macfaq/articles/038.html >so I lowered it to 8000k but that hasn't helped either.
2) I prepared an e-mail in HTML with 2 jpeg attachments and over 20 active hyperlinks to websites. When ever I send this, problem 1 above usually occurs and the recipient receives the document properly formatted but without the blue and active hyperlinks. When they reply it back to me, all is well, the hyperlinks are active. With text only the size is 11 k, with the 2 attachments the total size is 320 k, so it's not huge. I've sent smaller test e-mails, with and without attachments to numerous friends since this problem occurred that were successfully received with active hyperlinks. I deleted and re-copied/pasted all the links in this particular document but still the same results.
I've also done the basic PRAM reset and desktop rebuilding.
I'd appreciate any advice.
Thank You.
Dan.
