Well, it _is_ a network printer, but not quite,
according to AppleTalk/LocalTalk. ;) The printer is
connected directly to the network, which is directly
connected to the PC. What's in between is largely
irrelvant as far as that protocol is concerned, at
least in how it presents things to the users.

If the printer was connected to another computer via
a serial or parallel port then shared, then it'd
be considered a network printer with the Apple
protocol, or any other protocol. 'Course then for
the printer to be used by other computers on the
network, the computer it's connected locally to must
always be running. (And if the computer is a Mac
running OS 9.2.2 or older the printer must have
PostScript and either the Mac must be running software
like DAVE or the PC(s) have to run software like
PC MacLAN. Same for a PC connected shared printer
when you want to use it with Macs running 9.2.2 or
older.) Nice that the Linux~Windows printer and
other networking stuff ported easily to OSX, eh? :)

With other protocols the only printers considered
local to a computer are ones directly connected to it
via serial, parallel, USB or any port on the computer
that's NOT a network port.
