I tried walking her through disabling DHCP and
manually
setting an IP to disable BootP. I think she got
DHCP turned off but might still have BootP going on
the JetDirect.

BootP works pretty much like DHCP, except for if you
have a BootP server you can manually assign IPs to
devices by MAC address. Then you can sit at one
console and change all IPs on your network. DHCP
assigns IPs on a first come, first served basis.

Could download and install Web JetAdmin and do the
configuration in a friendly GUI environment, but
IIRC, you have to setup at least one print queue
and do some other things, so it's actually more
work than using Telnet.

Telnet is very useful. You can run the Telnet server
that comes with Windows XP (in XP Pro, dunno about
Home) then with a Telnet client on the Mac you can
run things on the PC.

'Course you can also do that with VNC (Virtual Network
Computing). That's freeware which puts the other
system's desktop in a window and you can use the mouse
and keyboard remotely. VNC runs on many platforms and
is fully cross-operational amongst most of them.

Say hello to Juror #49. Yep, I'm on jury duty until the end of March. Gotta call in
each weekend. Fun.
