Maybe I've been THE lucky ONE, but I've been with Rogers since just before the @Home debacle. Other than the transition where there were a few bumps and groans, I've been pretty happy with the service. And, as stated by others, the cable modem uses DHCP to interface with the computer; not PPPoE.
