Hi perhaps someone has mentioned this:

Mac-specific OS installers can invariably be tricked into installing their pay load
anyway!

You do not run the standard "Install Mac OS" application that's on the main level of
the HD.

Instead, you have to dig deep into the installers folder and find the Mac OS 8.0
installer. Run the 8.0 installer. Then, from the web, download the (free) 8.1
installer and run it. IIRC the 8.1 installer on the Mac-specific CDs is the
computer-specific. The same work around has worked for me with 8.5 and 9.0 in a pinch.

Any other things you want installed (like QuickTime update, Text to Speech, etc.) you
will have to run manually from the installers folder.

Eric.

That's probably your problem. The error message you're getting I have seen
when I tried to use a backed-up 9.0 install disk (pesky users physically
cracking CDs! Grrr....). You may find you have more luck if you identify
where in the install process it's dying, instead doing a custom installation
and skipping that portion of the install (Whatever it's referencing in the
 "Installing xxxx......").

 Hope that helps!
