Hello, Nyx:

if you are using OS X, you do not have to use "terminal" to do ping (or any
number of internet things). Fire up the "Network Utility" in the
Applications/Utility folder and you can do things like ping, traceroute, DNS
lookup, etc. with a nice OS X GUI interface.
