You don't even need any form of video device to initiate an audio chat (voice conference). The built-in mics on the Lombard and Pismo PowerBooks were more than enough for a full-fledged conversation. PS I even believe there have been reports of USB cams working with iChat provided they're using the right drivers (was it the ioXperts drivers?)... I think I saw the comment at Macintouch.com.
