Sorry, I didn't explain clearly myself. I develop lzip without the "help" of any kind of version control. I do not need "the powerful features of git" to develop lzip. But I'm very flexible with the format of patches. :-)

Talking about distros, Daniel Bauman maintains his own git repository of lzip for Debian. Maybe you find it useful:
