Seems that you are not allowed to install packages when running as normal user.
You might install a complete version of MikTeX instead of a minimal version 
which upgrades
on the fly, either from the MikTeX site or from TeXLive (ProTeXt).

You should save the doc as a personal file before trying actions which involve 
write access
to Administrator directories (on Unix, loading the docs as plain user marks 
them as read only,
I hope it's the same on Windows).

Your other problems might come from the same reason.
