From your description, it sounds like you may not have specified the
pdflatex viewer correctly.
Go to Preferences. Under "File Formats" select PDF (pdflatex) and in
the "Viewer" field enter:
open -a 'Preview'
Hit modify to get LyX to save the new viewer, and hit save to save
preferences. You might want to do the same for PDF and PDF (dvipdfm).
If you want to use something other than Apple's Preview (say Acrobat
or TeXShop) you can substitute these program names in the command above.
If you use Preview or Acrobat, then the "Update" item under the
"View" menu will not work. Each time you want to view the changes
that you have to made to your document, you will first have to close
the results of the previous typeset run in Preview or Acrobat, and
then re-typeset the document. Using TeXShop for your PDF viewer
allows you to use the "Update" command, letting you view the results
of any changes without all the hassle.
Hope this works.

Hi,
I'm new to MacOS and have just installed TeX as well as lyx.
It looks that everything works fine. Except for when I try
to view a lyx document through pdflatex. then the program
gets stuck and nothing happens. Does anyone know a mailing
list for MacOS/Lyx specific problems or can anyone here help me.
Thanks a lot,
Dirk
