citations and linebreaks/hyphenations

Hello,
using LyX in connection with bibtex and an author-year citation style like
apalike - for example text (Smith and Miller 2001) text - I have the problem
that the citations more often than not stick out of the text into the margins,
because no linebreaks/hyphenations are inserted into the citations in the
text. Did anybody encounter the same problem and found a solution?
