The Dutch Association for Logic and Philosophy of the Exact Sciences (VvL) is delighted to announce the Logic at Large Lecture 2025 aimed at a general audience. Now in its fifth year, this annual lecture consists of a one-hour talk followed by discussion and questions, and will take place on Wednesday 8 October 2025, 16:00-18:00 CEST.
We are pleased to welcome Professor Samson Abramsky (University College London), who will give a public lecture entitled: “The Logic of Quantum Paradoxes” (see abstract below). The event will be held online and is open to all. No registration is required, simply join via this Zoom link: https://uva-live.zoom.us/j/66912252321 Title: The Logic of Quantum Paradoxes Abstract: It is often and justifiably said that quantum mechanics is our most successful physical theory. At the same time, fundamental features of quantum mechanics lead to the borders of paradox, and rule out any reconciliation with the world-view of classical physics. Moreover, it is these very paradoxical and non-classical features which lie at the heart of quantum advantage in information processing and computational tasks. In this talk, we will explain the logical structure of these non-classical and paradoxical features. They will appear as “logical twisting”, so that e.g. Liar cycles correspond to Moebius strips, and describe non-local physical phenomena.
