---------- Forwarded message --------- Dear friends and colleagues,
we have an open call for a 2-year postdoc position in Turin (deadline is fairly close). Please feel free to share with anyone interested. Best wishes, Enzo Crupi __________________ *POST-DOC POSITION in Logic and Philosophy of Science [deadline 23 november 2023] – University of Turin* The University of Turin invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher (“assegnista di ricerca”) in the field of logic and philosophy of science, for a period of two years (24 months) within the PRIN project “Reasoning with hypotheses: Integrating logical, probabilistic, and experimental perspectives”. The candidate will be supervised by Prof. Vincenzo Crupi, but is also supposed to collaborate with logicians and philosophers of science at the Center for Logic, Language, and Cognition (LLC), and Prof. Andrea Iacona in particular, and to contribute to the research activities at the LLC. There are no teaching obligations, but the candidate is free to acquire teaching contracts in Turin or elsewhere, as long as they don't conflict with his/her research obligations. Knowledge of Italian is not required. Candidates must hold a PhD degree in logic, philosophy or computer science, or provide clear evidence of obtaining it in the next months. They must have a track record of publishing in English, be able to demonstrate their research excellence and their ability to work on matters concerning logic and philosophy of science, according to the following description of the position: /Much of our thought has to deal with hypotheses, namely, it must go beyond the statement of isolated facts and direct forms of qualitative inference. Indeed, much of humans' inferential activity in daily life, professional settings, and scientific investigation relies on hypothetical premises, or concerns hypothetical conclusions. The position is funded by a larger project addressing these issues from a variety of perspectives in integrated form for both topics and methods. Formal approaches (logic, probability) are meant to be crucial for philosophical work along with consideration of relevant insights from other disciplines. Conditionals, counterfactuals, non-monotonic logics, evidential reasoning, and rationality are all eligible topics of research within the scope of the project./ // The postdoctoral fellowship (“assegno”) is exempt from regular income tax under Italian legislation; only social security contributions apply. The gross amount of the fellowship is ca. 25,000 €; this translates to a net income of 1,800 € per month. Turin is a city with affordable housing and living costs. Applications will have to be made via the PICA online system (“Piattaforma Integrata Concorsi Atenei”, https://pica.cineca.it/unito/) from 2 november (h 12) to 23 november 2023 (h 13). Other applications cannot be considered. We encourage candidates to familiarize themselves with the PICA system before the final deadline and to submit their application in time. Interviews will be held online at the beginning of December 2023 and decisions will be communicated swiftly thereafter. The default starting date is 1 January 2024, but a later date can be mutually agreed if compatible with the workplan of the funded project.
