This doesn’t bother me, because that code is executed only if an error occurs in a “select()” call (also the code calls “abort()” immediately afterwards).
I’m not sure why I made the loop go up to 10000, rather than just FD_SETSIZE. (Perhaps I thought that FD_SETSIZE might not be accurate?)
