I did solve this just as you suggested I don't remember coming across the checkSessionTimeoutBrokenServer() function I will have a look at that soon to see if what I have missed.

Look at how “openRTSP” implements the ‘-K’ option; specifically, note the “checkSessionTimeoutBrokenServer()” function in “playCommon.cpp”.
