We've been through this many times before (note the links in my previous
message). This suggested 'fix' does not work - at least not reliably on
all platforms. We've tried it.
Yes, I read all that, and the sense I got from it is, Linux works one
way, everything else works another way. Thus my suggestion for a
Linux-specific ifdef wrapping the bind() call.
