This shouldn't be OT since it is related to live555:
To add to Jeremy's comment, another option you could look at is to
write a DirectShow sourcefilter that uses the live555 RTSP stack
internally and to register the filter with the OS for the RTSP
protocol. This is the approach we used to get around the WMP mess
and should also work if the player is embedded in a webpage, provided
that the DS filter has been registered on the system.
