Looking further in dwt in a few spots there are Get/SetWindowLong (not GWLP/SWLP!) calls sprinkled throughout and I'm on 64 bit using a 64 bit exe my first question ... Why would there even be non-GWLP/SWLP calls in the first place? When the MSDN docs clearly mention it's deprecated <https://msdn.microsoft.com/en- us/library/windows/desktop/ms644898(v=vs.85).aspx> ... could it be the cause of the issues I've had...

Only the text of chat is not updated, the rest of the frame (Userlist, statusbar, etc) is all shown to reflect the proper tab, I believe this to be an issue of thumbnail previews.
