Hi all, I'm a W98 SE user (Oh! My God! Four letter words should be forbidden here!!). My computer is quite old (Pentium Pro, 64Mb RAM) and the few things I do with it are becoming increasingly slow.
Though I don't know much about Linux (I've never installed it, never used a PC with it installed) it is reputed to make things easier and faster than MS products (less code lines, I guess). What should I do to start from scratch? I know most of you will advise me to change my computer, but that is not what I am looking for and, by the way, it will also turn Windows faster (Four letter words again!! Sorry, I have to behave better). This has most probably discussed in this list zillions of times, but I am new (joined it yesterday) here and when browsing the archives there are LOTS of e-mails. Plain questions below: 1- Would it be advisable to turn to Linux? 2- Reasons? 3- How should I do so? 4- Should I expect a steep learning curve? 5- If I just use my computer to type things, use home Excel sheets, send and receive e-mails with Outlook, browse the web with Firefox, and not much more: What should I expect to improve with Linux? 6- Which of the distros is best suited for old and very limited computers? I should also tell you that I am "old and limited" being almost forty YO. Thanks for your help. Martin __________________________________________________ Todavía no tenés tu Ubbi Mail?
