Luc Verhaegen has been working on a new sunxi kms driver:

But because this is an unpaid volunteer work (as far as I know), you
can't expect any strict deadlines.
As for the mali driver, many people seem to 'want' it. But very few
can actually do something useful with it. The GLES API seems to be
a failure in Linux and it is very poorly supported by applications.
Yes, GLES can be used by Qt5. But I have yet to find a useful Qt5
application.
Do you have a clear plan to use the mali driver for some real purpose?
