But the Promise PCI card (as opposed to the onboard Promise controller) worked fine previously with 2 smaller disks, one on each channel. If this is the problem, doesn't that also indicate a problem with more recent releases of the RAID code. As I have mentioned in another message, limited testing seems to indicate that the disks work fine on their own, just not as part of an array. But that testing was under Mandrake 7.2 (i.e. a 2.2 kernel). I need to check if this is still the case under 2.4. Anyway, thanks for the suggestion. I'll give it a try.
