On a similar PLC note, I came across these guys:

They make software to talk to Koyo PLC's, and
have the source code available.
I asked them for the source, and said we
would port it to Linux, much to my surprise,
they sent me the LINUX PORT !!!
We have not tried it yet, but have used
the Koyo PLC's on projects.
They are great PLC's.
