Setting industry benchmarks for the collection, use and management of data in Australia. “Australia has a new data governance industry association” Written by Peter Dinham 04 October 2016 http://www.itwire.com/data/75066-australia-has-a-new-data-governance-industry-assaociation.html A new independent data governance industry association — Data Governance Australia (DGA) — has been launched with the aim of establishing “best practice” industry standards for data management in Australia. Former Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) chair and current Monash Business School Professor, Graeme Samuel, has been appointed chair of DGA. DGA comprises 12 founding board members from a cross-section of Australian industry, including major financial institutions, leading retailers, law firms, real estate corporations, airlines, and specialist data suppliers including technology, software and consulting service providers. The new not-for-profit association aims to establish best practice industry standards and benchmarks around the collection, use and management of data in Australia, as well as providing education, thought leadership and advocacy services to its members to promote and foster understanding of how data can be used responsibly to drive innovation and competitive advantage whilst complying with all regulatory requirements. The association will provide advocacy, education, support and thought leadership on all aspects of data usage and will operate alongside its sister associations ADMA, AIMIA and IAPA, all of which operate as separate associations, with a central expert team and resource base. In a joint statement, Jodie Sangster, chief executive, ADMA, and Murray Hyde, general manager, DGA, said: “Data is driving whole of business strategies, not just media and marketing, and so the timing is right to launch an association to serve the whole spectrum of Australian business and not just their marketing function.” Samuel says “advances in data technology and capabilities have transformed the way that Australian businesses use, store and manage data over the last decade. “Used effectively and managed responsibly, data can drive innovation, revenue growth and customer experience. However, in a world of almost infinite data storage and use, it is incumbent upon all sectors of industry to ensure that stringent self-regulation and best-practice is applied to retain consumer confidence and avoid heavy-handed federal regulation.” Founding board members of DGA are: Ben Ashton group executive Quantium Warren Billington managing director AU/NZ & SEA Signal Thomas Dobson head of Marketing Planning & Performance NAB Leif Evensen general manager, Business Performance & Analytics Westpac Banking Corporation David Lamond director Scentre Group Lionel Lopez chief data officer Veda, an Equifax Company Ingrid Maes director, Loyalty & Customer Data Woolworths Paul McCarney co-founder & chief executive Data Republic Michelle Pinhiero director of Intellectual Property & Data Management IAG David Rohan general manager Loyalty Analytics Qantas Loyalty Gavin Smith TMT Sector head Allens Adam Story general manager Flybuys, Loyalty & CRM Coles -- Cheers, Stephen _______________________________________________ Link mailing list [email protected] http://mailman.anu.edu.au/mailman/listinfo/link
