I solved the problem with an ordinary SIM from another provider in my
wireless modem. This makes calls and is $5 a month cheaper. Like the
Telstra data service it is shaped to 1.5 Mbps when the data is used up
(rather than being cut off).
I originally got the Telstra service because it was only $15 a month,
but has crept up to $30.
