I never need it but it is not a proof that it is useless. Not everybody uses the presenter console for slideshow. If you use Impress as an interactive tool, for example using the pen to write on a slide, it may be better to have the same thing on both screens. In such case, how do you do to navigate between slides, without switching between edit and slideshow modes? Best regards.
