The key combination Alt+Left/Right is typical for browsers to go back/forth in history (although alt-combinations are heavily used in more complex software). And MSO uses it for web content too. However, those shortcuts are, once introduced, hard to revert. Besides the availability of customization, access to the commands is very easy with the dedicated Navigation toolbar and the Navigator in the sidebar.
