Dear Michael, dear friends,
I am very much impressed how many helpful people are around here even to help somebody like me who is too stupid to file a correct bug report... Now, since I have some experience in using presentation programs, doing 200+ presentations/year, I am misusing this mailing to also present some ideas of - maybe even small - changes which would make - in my opinion - Impress much more usable.
Best regards
Karl
P.S. Since my time budget is too limited to help by learning filing bugs (or even fixing them) I have just made a donation to the document foundation.

========================================
Wish list to make LO Impress more usable (ordered by suspected difficulty of implementation):

- make, like in Powerpoint: F5 start presentation at first slide, Shift+F5 start at current slide - again, powerpoint advantage: When making an enumerated list or bullet list, and using "return" two make a two-line spacing between bullet points, Powerpoint automatically removes the empty number/bullet point. I know that this is not good formatting but enormously useful in practice - show in the "document/properties" section of the file menu not only how many slides the document has, but also how many are blocked (or, even better than Powerpoint, show how many are unblocked) - this helps enormously if one has large presentations with many slides blocked and you need to know how long the presentation is - allow copy/paste of several slides in an unrestricted manner (not only copy in the sort view and paste in the normal view - quite inconvenient and counter-intuitive) - reduce load and save times - especially for large files, saving takes forever and seemingly saves always the full document, not only the changes - finally, I know that it is unfair to ask for that without giving log files - remove the frequent crashes, especially when manipulating/saving .ppt files and the tendency of Impress to "hang" at certain slides...

        This is the bug to tackle first I think.

        Can you do:

        mv ~/.config/libreoffice ~/.config/was-libreoffice

        and then try to start it again. If that succeeds we'll need the
was-libreoffice directory in a bug report (a v. useful report). If it
fails - then we'll need an strace -f -s 256 -o /tmp/slog writer # which
will log to /tmp/slog - and then we'd want the trace. Really the best
thing to do is to do this via bugzilla, please CC me on the bug
though :-)

        Thanks !

                Michael.
