This came up as a possible suggestion in Bug 136554.
Currently, when the user inserts a FOOTNOTE or an ENDNOTE, a default anchor
character style is automatically applied.
This is sufficient for many users but doesn't cover all cases. For example,
when using traditional typographic Footnote symbols (*, †, ‡, §, **, †† etc.),
IME, you need to use a separate character style for the asterisks to ensure
that the size is comparable to the other symbols.
To allow for this I would suggest adding an "Anchor character style" option to
"Insert > Footnote and Endnote > Footnote or Endnote," so that the user can
chose a non-default style if needed.
The other menu and toolbar opotions would be unaffected: they would cointinue
to add a footnote / endnote with the default style as before.
