It seems the problem is either not easily reproducible, or it depends on more
factors:
The section is question was a level 4 (a.b.c.d), and it had level-5
sub-sections that were "unfolded". Trying the selection again with the
sub-levels "folded", I could not reproduce the issue.
Still possible however is that the problem is related to committing tracked
changes shortly before trying the selection.
Tracking changes and selections sometimes react a bit odd...
