Bug ID: 169447
Summary: Ctrl+Backspace, Ctrl+Delete: Edge cases in behavior,
documentation vague
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 25.8.3.2 release
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: medium
Component: Writer

Testcase
This is a somewhat wide report about the behavior and the documentation of the
shortcuts Ctrl+Backspace, Ctrl+Delete, as they behave at least in Writer, but
most likely elsewhere too.
Feel free to only address behavior, and I will file a different ticket about
documentation if required.
All issues are demonstrated via the attached testcase ODT file.
The main problem I see is inconsistent behavior of Ctrl+Delete, in section B.
It seems that it removes a following line break when there are 2 special
characters after the cursor, but not when there is only 1.
As for issue C, when the cursor precedes an asterisk followed by a line break,
Ctrl+Delete removes the line break, but when the cursor precedes an asterisk
followed by a *paragraph* break, Ctrl+Delete does not remove the paragraph
break.
These are no recent regressions, as 25.2.6.2 is also affected. And in fact, I
was surprised to see that Google Docs behaves the same from Mozilla Firefox
145.0, in both cases. But none of these affects the web version of Microsoft
Word, via Microsoft Edge 142.0.
----------------------
As for the documentation (issue A), the document shows pretty well what I mean.
I feel precisely documenting the behavior would be difficult (we would need to
define "word"), but I would suggest the following, which would already be much
clearer, and probably less misleading:
> Ctrl+Del Delete the “word” or “word” fragment which follows the cursor
> Ctrl+Backspace Delete the “word” or “word” fragment which precedes the
> cursor
Ctrl + Shift + Arrow Left and Ctrl + Shift + Arrow Right are also affected, but
I feel their descriptions are fine.
Ctrl + Arrow Right also seems fine to me, while Ctrl + Arrow Left is vague.
