Bug ID: 168834
Summary: Pasting text from other sources may change document
metadata, such as 'Creator'
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 25.8.0.4 release
Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Writer
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
Hello,
when text is pasted into a document, pasting may change document metadata. As
an example, if I create new empty document and paste text from Meinberg
SyncFire 1500 data sheet
(https://www.meinbergglobal.com/download/docs/datasheets/english/ds_syncfire-1500.pdf),
the document metadata (as seen by clicking File - Properties) changes
instantly.
This is particularly annoying because it also changes the creation metadata,
time and 'Creator', which can not be edited, removed or undone in LibreOffice.
Workaround is to paste first to, for example, notepad, or use Paste Special -
Unformatted Text.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. In Writer, choose File - New - Text Document (or open any existing document
in Writer)
2. Select and copy text from some other document which also includes formatting
or other metadata in the copy to Windows clipboard - see 'Description' for an
example PDF
3. Paste the text into the Writer document
4. Click File - Properties and observe metadata change
Actual Results:
The document metadata, including annoying-to-fix creation time and creator
name, changes.
Expected Results:
The document metadata should never change when pasting text into a document.
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: No
