--- Comment #41 from Dennis <[email protected]> ---
I agree that this is a critical feature for users.
I have just attempted my first move from Excel to Calc and it is this feature
which may prevent me using for anything of serious importance.

Firstly, I did find and use the "Define Database Range" feature.
Then I found the autoformat feature, and enabled auto-filter on the on the
columns. I thought to myself "Okay, not smooth but possible".

Then I attempted to sort my table, and the formatting, with banded rows, totals
and borders, all jumped about.

This was a _very_ simple table, and while it may be possible to wrestle the
system into place, why should I move?

I understand that Calc is it's own thing, but I think it is necessary to listen
to the _potential_ users of Calc and really appreciate that they are pointing
in the right direction. "Format as Table" is _the_ feature I use in Excel. I
need to be able to easily insert and move rows and columns without having to
reformat the entire table, or redefine the range each time.

Happy to attempt to contribute to the effort. I will look at the contribution
pages, if there is agreement from the project that it would be an acceptable
feature.
