Ah, I think I understand what you mean now.

So, that's actually not what I'm suggesting. That is, I am not suggesting new
ways for users to create transitions between page-sequences. A user will _not_
be able to select a bunch of paragraphs, or page-worths' of paragraphs, and
change the page dimensions or background for example, for just those paragraphs
or pages they selected. Formatting changes would apply to the _existing_ page
sequence (or sequences if your selection covers many of those).

Instead, with my suggestion, we would have "Format > Page..." rather then
"Format > Page Style..." on the menus, and that would apply to the current
sequence(s) of pages, just like "Format > Page Style..." applies to the named
style used for the current sequence of pages. The difference will be, that
instead of changing the named style, it would change an automatic style, for
the current sequence - just like "Format > Paragraph..." does. It would still
be the case that if you wanted to style some pages differently, you would need
to insert a page break with a PgS specified (just like if you want a new
paragraph you have to press Enter and you can't select some sentences and style
them differently).

Does this address your reservation?
