Still happening, although some of the UI text has changed.

Version: 25.2.2.2 (AARCH64) / LibreOffice Community
Build:7 370d4be9e3cf6031a51beef5...
Environment: CPU threads: 12; OS: macOS 15.4.1
User Interface: Ul render: Skia/Metal; VCL: osx 
Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); Ul: en-US
Misc: Calc: threaded

Steps:

1. Create new text document
2. Ensure View > Field Names is un-checked
3. Type "Test" (without the quotes)
4. Insert variable varA with value "is" (without the quotes) 
-- a. Insert > Field > More fields > Variables > Set Variable
-- b. Name: varA 
-- c. Value: is
-- d. Leave Invisible un-checked
-- e. Click Insert

Actual result:  field appears with empty value
Expected result: "is" appears as field value

5. Press enter

6. Insert variable show for varA
-- a. Insert > Field > More fields > Variables > Show Variable
-- b. Name: varA
-- c. Click Insert

Actual result:  field appears with empty value
Expected result: "is" appears as field value

7. Insert > Field names

Actual and expected result: "Set variable varA = is" appears


This has been an issue since LibreOffice 4.2.6.3 so not a regression in the
current version. Leaving as Inherited from OOo.
