Bug ID: 165189
Summary: Remove the need to change fonts twice
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 25.2.0.3 release
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: medium
Component: LibreOffice
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
When creating Japanese documents, you often have to change font twice to have
effect on both latin and Japanese, although the font fully supports both.
Steps to Reproduce:
1.type "aaaaa"
2.select Japanese font in font list (not font dialog)
3.type "日本語"
or
1.type "aaaaa"
2.select Japanese font in font list (not font dialog)
3.type "日本語"
Actual Results:
After step 3 user has to change the font a second time. It happens very
frequently and productivity is affected.
Expected Results:
Changing font should change font for both latin and non latin. See reasons in
"other information".
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: No
Additional Info:
Similarly, in font dialog you have to change font separately for both latin and
asian.
This looks like a remnant of the time when fonts only fully supported either
set of characters. Both Adobe and Google now have free fonts that support most
of the Unicode set. (Source Han and Noto, respectively.) Even commercial
Japanese opentype fonts support extendend latin and more, thanks to
AdobeJapan1's Standard set. There is no more need to consider latin and
non-latin separately, really.
I think there should be an option in the settings to change both sets at once.
