Then in bug 161204 we adjusted this new overlay to make it behave better when zooming in and out. At first I found it a bit weird, since I had never seen it before in any other application. But after some time, I found that having a wider cell outline is actually helpful and looks quite nice. IMO the current state does not look ugly.
