Isn't this the same as compiling with CC="gcc -flto -fuse-linker-plugin.."?

If so, maybe just this could be mentioned.

Apart from qt, almost all packages would benefit since the code would be 
optimised and the compiled binaries/libs would almost all be smaller, no?
