I think this approach is sensible, Bruce. Ideally, I like to see all packages built, installed and configured within chapter 6, and thinking about this some more, I reckon we could do without chapter 8 completely. I think moving Grub to chapter 6 (complete with configuration instructions) and the kernel too would work just as well as it does now. The /etc/fstab page could move to the bootscripts section, as it's obviously of critical importance to the boot process.
