Hi! Everyone,

FYI

The New York 42 goes to trial on June 3rd 2002

Monday, June 3, 2002
9:30 a.m.
courthouse - 100 Center Street -Room 535 -Part 1
Judge Robert Stoltz

42 protesters, standing in front of the United Nations
holding a large banner, demanding the end to the
bombing of Vieques, PR, will be put on trial in the
largest political trial in the history of NYC.

On May 15, 2001 I was among the first group of
arrestees who were arrested for demonstrating our
outrage at the continued bombing of the tiny island of
Veiques in Puerto Rico by the U.S. Navy. We are
accused of disrupting the foot traffic in front of
the United Nations. The charge, disorderly conduct,
is a violation, equal to a traffic ticket, for which
we have already spent more than 36 hours in jail and
are now going to trial. If we are convicted, the
sentence will be 15 days in jail and a $560 fine. The
fine for the NJ State Troopers who fired into the van
full of African American and Latino students (4) on
the NJ Turnpike, was only $280.

We are hoping to have as many friends, supporters, and
family members as possible in the courtroom to witness
this trial. Please try to attend the 1st day of the
trial. If you need more information please call the
following number at Councilwoman Margarita Lopez's
office: (212) 614-8751 Ext. 17.
Or call Cleo at (212) 234-2068 or (646) 261-0193

Fuera Marina - Vieques Si! Marina No!

Peace & Love,

Cleo
