There are bugs in the GMP configuration (at least for V5.01 and 5.02, allegedly fixed in the not-yet-released 5.03) which breaks under the Lion compiler.
This post: http://gmplib.org/list-archives/gmp-bugs/2011-July/002308.html contains a pair of simple two-line fixes to be applied before building gmp on Lion. Once you have built gmp and successfully run "make check" you can configure and build ledger.
